Lover Avengened (Black Dagger Brotherhood #7)

Not a member of the brotherhood, but an amazing male nonetheless...

Review: Lover Avenged
Publication Date: April 28, 2009
Publisher: NAL Hardcover
Genre: Romance, Fantasy

The Story: (J.R. Ward) Caldwell, NY, has long been the battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the Lessening Society. It’s also where Rehvenge has staked out his turf as a drug lord and notorious nightclub that caters to the rich and heavily armed. His shadowy reputation is exactly why he’s approached to kill Wrath, the Blind King, and leader of the Brotherhood. Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood, even though his sister is married to a member. Because he’s a sympath, his identity is a deadly secret- the revelation of which will result in his banishment to a colony for sociopaths. And as plots within and outside the Brotherhood take their toll against Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in a darkening world- Elhena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him- and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

My Review:Ah, Rehvenge, or as the humans who frequent his nightclub call him, the Reverend.  Rehv is the brother of Zsadist's mate, Bella. This half vampire, half sympath with purple eyes and a Mohawk, is one male you want to watch out for.  He's cunning, wealthy, and incredibly hot!

Lover Avenged gives us a closer look into the world of the sympaths.  Until now, we knew very little about sympaths: they are sociopaths, were put in a colony away from vampire society, should you know about a sympath- you must report him/her to be deported, or be considered an accomplice, and to be half sympath is considered no different then being full sympathLover Avenged takes us into sympaths' colony and allows us to see first hand their diabolical nature.

The harder Rehv works to free himself of his hated heritage, the more ensnared he becomes in the web of sympath deceit, not to mention his health is suffering from the regular shots of dopamine he injects, often with unsterilized needles.  Elhena, a nurse, tries to help Rehv, but can help him escape the sympaths' snare, or will he be lost for good?

Rehv is an amazing character.  He is different, yet very like the members of the Brotherhood.  He is protective of his family, he falls hard for Elhena (and wants to protect her too), and he is a male of worth in many ways.  He has his faults, yes, but that just adds to his appeal.  Who wants perfection anyway?
