Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood #2)

Rhage, Son of Tohrture
The brother that made me cry...

Review: Lover Eternal
Date Published: March 7, 2006
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Genre: Romance, Fantasy

The Story: (J.R. Ward) In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover—for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships, is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. Her faith in miracles was lost years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves…

My Review: Rhage is quite the ladies' ma..... er, vampire.  In fact, from what we are told, stories of his conquests and escapades are passed from father to son. But this gorgeous vamp does not want to be the love 'em and leave 'em type, but he doesn't have much of a choice...

Over a century ago, Rhage was cursed with a beast.  Anytime he gets out of of control (from pain, anger, or any other excess of emotion), the beast can emerge to wreck havoc on anything in its path.  Even the other brothers steer clear of Rhage's dark side.

When Rhage meets Mary, just the sound of her voice soothes the roar inside him.  From that point on, all he desires is more time with her to hear the voice that offers him a small amount of peace.  There's one small problem: Mary is human, and he must defy the Brotherhood to be with her at all.

Rhage is quite special to me.  He is this giant, gorgeous vampire, who has a way with the females and tends to run off at the mouth.  Yet, all he really wants is a shellan (mate) of his own.  He's like a giant teddy bear (with fangs and impulse control problems).  Rhage's story had me laughing, or crying, throughout the whole book.  I really thought Rhage would be my favorite brother, but then I met Z...

Quote: [Rhage to Wrath]  "Look, my lord, Mary is... different to me.  I'm not going to pretend I understand why.  All I know is, she's a pounding in my chest I can't ignore... hell, that I don't want to ignore.  So the idea of leaving her at the mercy of the Society is simply not an option.  When it comes to her, every protective instinct I have goes into overdrive and I can't push that **** aside.  Even for the Brotherhood." (Lover Eternal page 200)

Berni claims Rhage as her favorite!  And who can blame her for choosing this outrageous, gorgeous vampire?

Aw if Rhage's story made you cry I can just imagine what happened when you read Z's story. I do like Rhage but he isn't my favorite. You have to feel for the guy though since for so long he couldn't find the right woman and felt he had to sleep with every woman just to keep his beast locked away.

I really like Rhage... more in a hey, you are really fun to hang out with, kind of way. He is a lot of fun... when not battling his demons. I cried while reading this book as well, and at the end I was so angry at the Scribe Virgin.
